Family and Name Research PÖPELT

My father was named Pöpelt and was born in 1926 in the small street village of Ebersdorf in Lower Silesia in the district of Schweidnitz, later Neumarkt, and baptized in the Catholic parish church in neighbouring Bockau. He moved to Saarau, where he attended elementary school, two years later. From 1937 he was a pupil of the St. Matthias-Gymnasium in Breslau, today the seat of the Ossolineum. My grandfather was from Ossig, whose father was from Pohlsdorf (Poland: Paździorno). The other found ancestors lived in Eisendorf (Polish: Jarostów), which belonged to the parish of Ober Mois (Polish: Ujazd Górny). The church records there have been preserved since 1777. The last Pöpelt ancestor known by name died in 1850 at the age of 80, i.e. was born around 1770.

Today there is the name Pöpelt laut verwandt.de still approx. 70 times in Germany (as of 2008).

The project is intended to record the ancestors of the Pöpelt namesakes still alive today and document their origins. For this purpose I have sent letters to all addresses accessible on the Internet. Among them are also descendants of my grandfather’s siblings, with whom I had no contact so far, but also name bearers, to whom I could not find any relationship so far.

Furthermore, the aim of the project is to decipher the meaning and origin of the name.
