The Memories of Georg Michael SEBALD
At the beginning of 2019 we had the pleasure to transcribe the memories of Georg Michael Sebald. He began writing down these memories at the age of 80 and continued to do so until he was 86. He wrote down his review of life in a small notebook, which he bound between the wooden book covers of a farmer’s calendar, which was over 40 years old at that time, in order to protect it.
Georg Michael Sebald was a blacksmith by profession and was born on 31 July 1737 in the hamlet of Brachbach, which today belongs to the municipality of Untermünkheim in the district of Schwäbisch Hall.
The last two pages are written in a different handwriting, possibly by one of his descendants or another relative, and must date from 1918. These are shocking impressions from the end of the First World War.
