He began writing down these memories at the age of 80 and continued to do so until he was 86. He wrote down his review of life in a small notebook, which he bound between the wooden book covers of a farmer&#8217;s calendar, which was over 40 years old at that time, in order to protect it.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-756 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/michael-mautner.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/Sebald-00.1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"688\" height=\"820\" srcset=\"https:\/\/michael-mautner.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/Sebald-00.1.jpg 688w, https:\/\/michael-mautner.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/Sebald-00.1-252x300.jpg 252w, https:\/\/michael-mautner.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/Sebald-00.1-592x705.jpg 592w, https:\/\/michael-mautner.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/Sebald-00.1-450x536.jpg 450w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 688px) 100vw, 688px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Georg Michael Sebald was a blacksmith by profession and was born on 31 July 1737 in the hamlet of Brachbach, which today belongs to the municipality of <a href=\"https:\/\/de.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Unterm%C3%BCnkheim\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Unterm\u00fcnkheim<\/a> in the district of Schw\u00e4bisch Hall.<\/p>\n<p>The last two pages are written in a different handwriting, possibly by one of his descendants or another relative, and must date from 1918.
