I am Michael Mautner and I have been a genealogist in Munich for many years.

Memberships

As a member of the Association of German-speaking Professional Genealogists (Verband deutschsprachiger Berufsgenealogen e.V.) I am subject to the general guidelines and binding professional principles. In addition, I am a member of the Association of Professional Genealogists, the Bavarian Association for Family Studies (Bayerischer Landesverein für Familienkunde e.V.), in the consortium of East German family researchers (Arbeitsgemeinschaft ostdeutscher Familienforscher e.V.) and in the Austrian Society for Research on Genealogy and Regional Heritage (Österreichischen Gesellschaft für Familien- und regionalgeschichtliche Forschung).

I am certified by the Weinsberger Forum as an heir searcher and curators of estates.

The International Center for Archive Research ICARus, which among others runs the online portal for parish registers Matricula, I support by membership in the community ICARUS4all. In addition, I participated in the collection of the loss lists Austria-Hungary from the First World War, a volunteer online project of www.GenTeam.eu.

Name research

In addition to genealogy and family research, onomastics can offer exciting additional information. Therefore I am a member of the German Society for Name Research (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Namenforschung e.V.). I get support from the linguist Dr. Helga Frank. I am also a member of the Association for Place and Field Name Research in Bavaria (Verband für Orts- und Flurnamenforschung in Bayern e. V.), because especially in Bavaria house names are an important part of genealogical research.

Prior to full-time genealogy, I worked as a graduate agricultural engineer in trading (wholesale and retail), sales and management in the food and wine industries.

In the tracks of may family name – that’s how it all started…

In 1991, as the oldest existing document, a baptismal certificate from 1867 fell into my hands and my curiosity was aroused. So I started to study family research and genealogy. The starting point for the personal research at that time was a trip to Southern Bohemia (Czech Republic) to the State Regional Archives Třeboň (formerly Wittingau). For a small fee I got the original church books in my hands and I could trace my family name back to 1636 within a week. Since then, the topic has not let me go. Over the years, I was able to explore other family branches in Bavaria, Silesia (Poland) and Transylvania (Romania). In the meantime, passion has become a vocation and also a profession into which I can contribute all my experiences and my knowledge.
